Bird Key Bayfront Renovation

There’s something special about coming back to a home we originally built and having the opportunity to rethink it for new owners. The house has a great open-bay location on Bird Key, but the way people live and what they want from a waterfront home has changed. We’re opening up the main living areas, moving the kitchen to take better advantage of the water views, and making some significant structural changes to support that new layout. It’s a major renovation, but we’re starting with a home we know well and building on what was already there

Reimagining a Bird Key Bayfront Home

Set on an exceptional open-bayfront property on Bird Key, this expansive residence is being reimagined for modern waterfront living.

Murray Homes originally built the Coastal-style home for a previous owner. When the current clients decided to move from their Bird Key canal-front residence to a home with sweeping bay views, they purchased the property knowing its history and selected Murray Homes as the natural choice to lead its transformation.

The renovation opens and modernizes the interior to create a more connected great-room living experience. The kitchen is being relocated to a premier position within the home, while walls are being reconfigured, structural steel is being introduced, and larger sliding doors are being installed to dramatically increase the waterfront views and strengthen the connection between the interior and exterior spaces.

The outdoor living areas are also being redesigned without relocating the existing pool. Updated rear decks, a new outdoor kitchen, fire bowls, and expanded entertaining spaces will create a seamless setting for indoor-outdoor Florida living.

The finished home will blend traditional coastal character with a fresh, modern sensibility. Bespoke Interior Design by Murray Homes is leading the interior design, with custom cabinetry by Magnolia Cabinet Co.

Features

Natural Materials and Custom Cabinetry Shape the Interior

Inside, a lighter contemporary palette of natural wood, stone and custom cabinetry brings a completely new character to the residence. Outside, the existing pool remains while the surrounding deck and entertaining areas are redesigned with a new outdoor kitchen and fire features—extending the renovation from the structure itself through the way the owners will ultimately experience the waterfront.

A New Plan for the Main Living Spaces

The transformation goes well beyond a new material palette. The first floor is being reorganized to create a more open, connected living environment, including relocating the kitchen to take greater advantage of the water views and introducing larger openings between key spaces.

New structural steel, reinforced masonry and engineered connections are being incorporated where required to support those changes within the existing home.

A Renovation That Goes Beyond the Surface

The renovation reaches well beyond the finishes. As the existing layout is opened and reconfigured, new steel beams and columns, reinforced masonry and engineered connections are being integrated with the home’s existing concrete structure.

Much of this work will ultimately disappear behind walls and finishes, but it provides the structural support required for the new design while strengthening key connections within the home for the years ahead.

Architectural Cabinetry Throughout the Home

Bird Key Bayfront Renovation custom cabinets

Custom cabinetry plays a major role throughout the redesigned home, helping create a consistent architectural language from the kitchen and bar areas to built-in storage, display walls and secondary living spaces.

Rather than treating each cabinet as a separate feature, the design uses coordinated wood tones, clean panel proportions and integrated lighting to connect the rooms visually.

The result is a cleaner, more unified interior where the cabinetry helps define each space while supporting the lighter contemporary direction of the renovation. Custom cabinetry for the project is being provided by Magnolia Cabinet Co.
